Valley of Fire was designated a Nevada State Park in 1935, making in Nevada’s oldest state park and a sight that should not be missed when visiting the Las Vegas area. Valley of Fire is approximately a 1-hour drive from the Las Vegas Strip and it is definitely worth the trip.
Valley of Fire derives its name from the incredible red sandstone formations that can be seen throughout the park. These sandstone formations were created more than 150 million years ago in the age of the dinosaurs. The red sandstone formations have high iron content, giving them their deep red appearance.
Valley of Fire has wonderful sights to see throughout the park such as; Atlatl Rock, Arch Rock, Beehives, Cabins, Fire Canyon, Mouse’s Tank, Petrified Logs, Rainbow Vista, and Seven Sisters. There are also several wonderful petroglyphs that can be seen in a couple of areas throughout the park carved by the ancient Indians that lived in the area.
Valley of Fire has an abundance of wildflowers that are in bloom in the spring. You may also be lucky enough to see desert big horn sheep, lizards, fox, rabbit, and coyote.
Valley of Fire Weddings take place at Seven Sisters, Rainbow Vista, Visitors Center, and the Cabins. The backdrop makes for a unique and incredible setting for a wedding. From 0-95 guests can be included in your Valley of Fire wedding day. Valley of Fire Facilities include: an informative visitors center, hiking trails, campgrounds, and picnic areas. If you are visiting Valley of Fire on your own, there is a $10/vehicle entrance fee. If you have purchased a Valley of Fire Wedding or Valley of Fire Photo Tour, all permit and entrance fees have been paid on your behalf.
